…But His Memory Lingers On – Honoring the 200th Anniversary of Haydn’s Death
- Azimuth Quartet and Chamber Orchestra
- “In celebration of Franz Joseph Haydn, the Azimuth Quartet will perform one of his most beloved works, the String Quartet Op. 77, No. 1 (Hob 111:81) in G Major (1799), a true masterpiece of the genre. Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major (~1761-1765), presumed lost until 1961 when a copy of the score was discovered in Prague, has since become a staple of the cello repertoire. Haydn's opera, Armida, was performed over 50 times from 1784-1788 then disappeared until its revival in 1968. The Armida Overture, Hob 28 captures the opera's plot in purely instrumental terms; another tribute to Haydn.” –McDaniel PR
